Asking for my wife... There's a Gap TV ad running in the U.S. this month, featuring a "Daddy-O" song. Any one know the artist and actual song title? Sorry I don't have more info.

I haven't seen the ad but it sounds like it could be "Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's" Go-Daddy-O.

Best answer: It's an ad for Old Navy, not the Gap, which is why you might not have found this on a google search.

That makes more sense. I think the Gap's Go-Daddy-O ad came out some time in the 90's.

A visit to Old Navy.com had a video where you can watch the Old Navy commercial and names the musical artists. The track features music by Behavior and vocals by Andrea Revel. But Old Navy does not link to the song download. Link

Oh my god, bless you. Every time that ad comes on I nearly jump out of my skin dancing, I just love it. Great find macadamiaranch.

This is one of those songs that makes me want to dance and also jab pencils in my ears. Perhaps I should download it.

I downloaded the MP3, and to my ears, this sounds like a concentrated effort to make a more 'public-friendly' version of le tigre's 'Hot Topic,' (itunes clip link) in classic advertising 'soundalike' fashion.

I should stress that I'm not trying to rain on the respective parades of Behavior or Andrea Revel - it just seems pretty similar in all but tempo. But then, I'm an insatiable conspiracy theorist and always assume companies are doing this instead of actually paying the artists.

adamkempa: The style of that tune predates the birth of the members of Le Tigre. (Even then, do you think Le Tigre would let Old Navy use their music in an ad?)

Response by poster: Thank you jozxyqk! That was it!

Mendel - I agree, I'm just pointing out that the actual recurring musical phrase and syncopation of the lyric matches the le tigre song in certain parts (as I said, in all but tempo). I realize it's most likely a coincidence, but companies have been known to create soundalikes when they can't get rights to a song, and it's certainly in charcter for Le Tigre to deny said rights. Just playing Devil's advocate.
