Troublesome Treo

Treo 650 syncing woes on OS X and a .Mac account question.

For a friend: I had a disaster befall me last week - when I was syncing my Treo 650, it erased all of my contacts and calendar dates on both my Mac and the Treo itself. Fortunately, I have a fairly recent backup on a PC. The problem is, every time I reload my contacts onto the Treo and try to sync it with the Mac again, it erases them. I've got all of the HotSync and iSync settings set to allow the sync (I think), and it seems to be connecting properly, but for some reason it thinks the proper synced version to put on both systems is a blank one. Someone mentioned this might be conflict with Verizon Wireless Sync, but I checked and it is set to enable other sync apps. Any bright ideas?

Follow-up question: If I can't get this to work, I'll probably set up a .Mac account to sync my stuff to. Is there a way to import my address book from Outlook 2003 into a .Mac account?

I'm not at a Mac right now, but can you specify to 'Use Treo' information through iSync? I seem to recall that you can tell iSync which mode of information to trust.

All the information from the PalmOne Desktop gone also?

PS: If you can, sync via Bluetooth - it's so much nicer...

Best answer: I had problems with synching a Verizon Treo 650 to my Mac, and I spent the $40 for Missing Sync. All of my problems disappeared. Except that synching via bluetooth doesn't work especially well. But I find that a small price to pay.

Hm. If you have the backup on a PC, and you get that to the Treo, are you never prompted to choose to override the date on the Mac with the data on the Treo instead of synch it?

You can always install the Palm sycning software and force that manually. I'm not sure if you can easily pull over the data from Palm Desktop for Macintosh to the various Macintosh specific apps (iCal, Address Book, etc) or not, but you may be able to do that.

Response by poster: From my friend: "Thank you!! Missing Sync solved everything, $40 was a small price to pay to get rid of this headache!"

Thanks guys!
