Can anyone ID this (probably Eastern European) writing and / or hat.

My Grandmother found this hat and thinks it might be worth something. I said I would look into it for her and see if she could get anything from Ebay for it. It has some writing inside and an ID number . I'm not even sure what the language is but I would guess Russian or Eastern European. It may be genuine rabbit fur but of course it could be a cheap replica. Any thoughts or translations would be welcome.

Best answer: Well, the lettering at the top of the diamond looks to be CCCP, as in the old Soviet Union.

Best answer: The writing's Cyrillic, which combined with the CCCP suggests it's from one of: Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine.

Response by poster: Thanks - that's so helpful. So maybe worth something?

Best answer: The bottom bit says "Rot Front Leningrad", which could either refer to a contemporary anti-fascist group (unlikely) or a furrier.

Best answer: I doubt it's worth much. Those hats (ushanka) are extremely common. If it's a vintage mink hat in good condition, looks like they go for between $50 and $150. If it's rabbit, probably less.

Response by poster: Thanks erst - wish I knew how to tell. Thank you all - at least maybe I can get her a bit of money - even £30 would be helpful.
