Want to reactivate Flickr account. Need Yahoo password?

So I want start using my Flickr account again, but have forgotten the password to Yahoo, which is used by Flickr. Even better, my rarely ever used yahoo account goes to an email address that I deleted years ago. Is there any way I can recover this account? I haven't used Yahoo in years. Bonus point: My iPhone still remembers the Yahoo mail account and can use the account just fine. Is there any way I can get the password from the phone?

Can you use the phone to change the account details (most of all the email address) while you're in there? It seems that this would solve the problem, if it were possible.

Response by poster: Sorry wasn't clear, just have email access via the Mail App.

Do you mean that your Yahoo mail password is saved in Safari? If so, yes, and here is a walkthrough.

Response by poster: No, it's saved only in the Mail App.

If you can jailbreak, Revelation seems to show hidden passwords.

Best answer: This happened to me a few years ago. I called Yahoo and stayed on hold for a few hours. Eventually someone answered the phone and I was able to persuade them that the account was mine based on some details about the account and some security questions. I've lost that phone number but it's probably still out there on some random forum on the nth page of a Google search. It's not something I would want to repeat but it's possible, particularly if you can demonstrate access to the Mail account.

Does Yahoo Mail have a web client? If so, go there, enter that Yahoo email address, click the "forgot password" link and retrieve the response on your phone. Then just reset your password.

Yes, just go to the Yahoo "forgot password" page (here) and go through the process. Click 'I have a problem with my password' then enter your yahoo ID, then they should send you an email message to reset the password, which you should be able to access using your iPhone.

If it doesn't work, it shouldn't harm anything, so it's worth a try.

If the "email message to reset password" system doesn't work for some reason, it looks like there is another possibility to regain control of your account using "secret questions" - you'll see that possibility pop up as you work your way through the "forgot password" screens.

Once you have reset your Yahoo password, I believe you can then use that same username/pass to get into FlickR.

How password resets are handled has changed over the years but some of the recent advice you can see in the forum:

Basically it looks like you have to try the password recovery tool or go through the Yahoo form. They will probably ask you some details about your account like birthday, secret questions, things like that but will give you access again if you can answer those questions.

Who is your carrier? The reason I ask is because this happened to me with my pacbell.com email. Pacbell got bought by AT&T who turned over their email accounts to Yahoo. But since my phone is through AT&T, they were able to help me with my (now, Yahoo) passwords (because I am an AT&T customer).

Best answer: I had this exact same issue about a year ago! Forgot my Flickr account password for an account that used an email address from a domain that I no longer own. I thought I was locked out forever too. I ended up contacting Yahoo Customer Care (I think there was a link on the login page somewhere?) and told them I no longer had access to the email address (and gave them the email address). They provided me with a link to answer my previously set security question. Fortunately it was one I remembered the answer to! They also advised:

"If you're having difficulty remembering your answer or have tried answers that did not work online, we recommend that you take a moment to recall what you could have used. Provide us with possible answers so that we can manually compare them to the answer listed on the account."

Once I answered the question, they set the account to use my current email and a temporary password, and instructed me to reset the password. It was, shockingly, not at all as difficult a processes as I had imagined it would be.
