Sudden iTunes Woes

iTunes suddenly stops working on a fairly brand-new PC...

On my less-than-6-month-old PC running Windows 7 Premium, iTunes would suddenly not start.

Shows up in the processes in Task Manager, but does not run.

Will not start as administrator or other user.

I did a full uninstall of iTunes, restart, install of iTunes - Same.
I did a full uninstall of iTunes, uninstall of all other Apple programs (Bonjour, Mobile Device Support, Quicktime, etc.), restart, install of iTunes - Same.

I am loathe to do a system restore, but will do that if I have to. This machine has exhibited no erratic behavior in the 6 months I have had it.

I have followed the instructions posted by Apple here, here, and here.

Thoughts?

Check services to see if any Apple services are disabled or stopped. From command-line (or the start menu) enter "services.msc" to get their the quickest.

Services that need to be run should be set to "Automatic" in the startup type and may need to be started by the user at least the first time.

I don't know the specifics for iTunes, though, sorry.

Response by poster: So there appears to be a greater problem, as now other programs (Google Chrome) are not "running" but are in the Processes window. I have no idea what's happening now...

It's been a while since I touched a Windows box, but is it possible they *are* running, but not in a visible portion of the screen? e.g. on the portion of the display corresponding to a monitor the system believes is connected (but which isn't any longer) or in a virtual workspace of some sort?

Does this help? Seems like it is (was? post is from 2012) possible to inadvertently select an extended desktop.

You should be able to quickly tell whether the programs are off-screen for some reason by using alt-tab, which will show its list of open windows on the main display.

Alternatively, when you try to start iTunes, don't touch anything after you click on the icon and give it a few second to get running. Then hit the space bar, which will start the first song in the library playing. If you hear anything, you'll know it really is running, somewhere.

Response by poster: So not really resolved, but I left the computer on overnight, and iTunes was running on-screen. So, somewhere between 11pm and 4:30am, it decided to run suddenly. I'm still not sure what the problem was, but I'm closing this.
