Help me sneak around.

It's getting chilly in my neighborhood, and my feet tend to get very cold. I have a new baby and am up nursing her a lot at night. I'd like to be able to sneak away after putting her down without my slippers immediately waking her up.

All the slippers I have make scuff-scuff noises when I walk on our hardwood floors. My feet get so cold that just wearing socks isn't really an option - even super-warm socks don't do much to keep my feet from freezing. Right now I am keeping slippers on the bed where I nurse her and taking them off to put her down, and in that short timespan my feet lose most of their heat. It is a drag.

I've never really had to optimize for silence of operation when buying slippers before and don't know what my options are. Please recommend very, very warm slippers that make very little noise against hard floors!

These foot duvets are amazingly warm. And cheap!

I'm a fan of Haflinger slippers with the wool felt soles. Warm and quiet. They carry them at Amazon, Zappos, Nordstroms...

The LL Bean Wicked Good slippers are the best things ever invented. They have indoor-only soles, so they're soft and quiet.

Good thick socks don't have this problem. Recommended: The Sock Lady. Side note: also good socks for little kid feet too!

I have painful ice cube feet like this, and the absolute best thing i've ever had(including slippers of any type) are just these REALLY thick cheap socks from Ross. Any of those "surplus inventory from other shops!" type of discount chains that sells clothes seems to usually have them.

I believe i bought them as winter boot socks, and to wear with some boots that were honestly too big for me. I've seen the exact same ones several times going back to one of those shops, but honestly i can't remember the brand. I think they come in a pack of just two pairs and they were really cheap, like $3.99

They are seriously the thickest socks i've ever seen, i imagine they wear these inside space suits at NASA. You know those thick neoprene super cushy but fabricy laptop sleeves? They're like that thick. Probably 8-10mm.

My partner regularly jacks them from me to keep her feet warm as well, and gets mad when i'm wearing them or left them somewhere nonobvious. They're that good.

Oh, and they're completely silent. Even moreso than normal socks because of the cushiness. I feel like i could sneak up behind a ninja in these things. I know you said socks haven't worked, but seriously try some super thick socks. My feet are colder in boots than they are just wearing those things.

Another place to find the super thick socks emptythought recommends is at outdoor or hunting stores. You want the men's wool boot socks. I have a pair of thick boot socks and I don't think I'd be able to fit any of my shoes or boots on over them, they are just ridiculously insulating.

Another option is just to wear regular slip on style shoes that have a heel, slippers make noise because the heel just sort of does it's own thing when you lift your foot up.

The REI down booties are sooooooooo warm. I love them, and I am one of those people with super-cold-all-the-time feet.

They will make noise if you drag your feet. If you pick your feet up consciously while walking, you will be fine.

If you have a knitting friend, felted wool slippers are very fast to make (I made a pile for Christmas one year and was churning out 2 pair every 3 days.) They'll be as quiet as socks but about 5 times thicker.

Get a white noise machine/app. It's a lifesaver for me and my two week old. It'll block out noises like that and help to soothe your little one.

My Snoozies are comfy (I wear them with or without socks depending on the cold) and very quiet.

I personally go for cotton socks inside big wool socks-- I bought the wool socks at a sports megamart (Big 5, probably), so they're aimed at people who endure actual cold weather rather than just chilled tootsies. I don't have to wash them that often as they're not on my skin and just get a little surface dirt from walking around my place. Fantastic to sleep in, as I'm tall and sometimes my feet exceed my bed just a bit.

Can you get a heating pad to put your feet on while you nurse? That will keep your feet nice and warm, and then you just have to dash back to bed.

My feet get cold at night, and I am a very big fan of these socks- super thick and warm, and the grippers keep me steady on wood floors, and completely SILENT.

I'm up and wandering around in the night; icy cold floors trigger my foot neuropathy. My solution is wool socks and crocs. Easy on-and-off, solid footing, warm toes. Wouldn't have to be crocs, any comfy shoe with a solid sole would work. And crocs make no noise at all.

Good luck finding a solution. It's worth trying different things to find what works for you. The baby will soon be sleeping through the night (really!) but there will continue to be times you find yourself wandering around the house in the middle of the night. Warm toes help.

These work well for me and are completely silent.

So I actually purchased the REI down booties on freezer cake's recommendation, but I'm returning them because they are kinda clunky, and they're definitely not quiet.
