Hanafuda anyone?

Anybody know anything about Hanafuda?

I recently (yesterday) suddenly remembered this old favorite Mac game War of Flowers which appears to be a Korean game called Minhwatu, using "flower cards" or hanafuda. The geek in me is dying to find an OSX version of the game, the graphic designer in me is dying to get my hands on a deck of these cards.

Does anyone know more about these cards/games and does anyone know if there are places in New York City to purchase cards, or books (which appear to be out of print)?

For OS X, check out UltraSol.

Sloperama's Hanafuda section explains rules and strategies. Any of the clubs and/or stores in nycjapan's links may be able to help you further. JBox may allso be albe to help.

Oh, wow! My mother and grandmother both have decks of these cards and I never knew what they were. For what it's worth, they live in rural Indiana... so it can't be too hard to get your hands on some, especially in NYC. I have a feeling they probably got theirs from a Korean grocery. (I don't remember them ever warning me from playing with them with the admonishment that they came over from Korea or anything.)
