Strip-hop? (Ugh... sorry I couldn't resist.)

What's the best downtempo/trip-hop/lounge type song for a striptease?

I'm thinking of songs in the vein of Massive Attack's Angel and Thievery Corporation's Lebanese Blonde, but I'm open to anything as long as it's roughly within those or related genres.

Sneaker Pimps "6 Underground" would be a decent choice.

yeah seconding Portishead, a band I don't even particularly like, but can definitely recommend for something like this

Best answer: 2wicky. The right music, the right lyrics, and a nice little build around 2:30 for the denouement.

Portishead is certainly what came first to mind. It seems like there should be a lot in Morcheeba's oeuvre, too. Maybe something from Comfort Stand's free Wakka-Chikka Wakka-Chikka porngroove compilation? It has moaning.

You absolutely need to grab some tracks from Lovage:

Lifeboat
Stroker Ace
Strangers On A Train
Sex (I'm A...) (cover of an 80s band, Berlin)

As for Portishead, the version of Sour Times from "Roseland NYC Live" has to be listened to. The audio version can be heard at this link. Plenty of sexy choices on that CD.

Other strip-hop possibilities:
Is This Real, Lisa Hall

Meant To Be (Perfecto Chills), Infusion

Underwater Love by Smoke City

Water by Sneaker Pimps

Playground Love, Air

Until the Morning, Thievery Corporation

Mad about You, Hooverphonic

Lay Me Down, Supreme Beings Of Leisure

Floater by Waldeck

Hell is Around The Corner by Tricky (uses music from Portishead)

Dance Naked Under Palm Trees By Mo' Horizons

Not strip-hop but similar slow and sexy tempo:

Sleep (Solarstone´s Afterhours´ Mix), Conjure One

Nina Simone, Feeling Good.

PJ Harvey, The Northwood.

Crazy by Katie Noonan

Miss Li, Don't Try To Fool Me.

For more uptempo and fun stuff, try Imelda May and the Super Mario Remix of Ninch Inch Nails' Closer.

A super sexy yet classy one is: The World Outside by the Devlins. It plays in the movie Closer during a scene in which Clive Owen finds Natalie Portman (the dancer) in an underground strip-club.

So yes, Portishead is canonical for this sort of thing. And anything off Massive Attack's Mezzanine (esp. "Black Milk", "Inertia Creeps", "Dissolved Girl"). Or actually, "Paradise Circus" from Heligoland, now that I think of it.

In a lighter but still slinky trip-hoppy mood: Supreme Beings Of Leisure, "Never The Same" (the video has one word censored in the middle, you can probably guess which one) and in a more silly-sexy vein, "Last Girl on Earth".

Oh, and if you want instrumental... "Sun is Shining", DJ Krush/Toshinori Kondo.

And fuck, can't believe I forgot "Six Days" by DJ Shadow. Though part of the appeal is undoubtedly the Wong Kar-Wai video.
