What should I do in/near Prague this weekend?

Rock clubs? jazz shows? Hiking? Water?

Response by poster: Bonus : I'm kinda bummed I missed the Pirate Party meeting there last weekend. I should probably follow the activities more closely. Any comments?

There's Karlštejn Castle, which is about an hour or so outside the city. It's tourist-y, but the surrounding countryside is gorgeous.

Have you Pragued before? Are you looking to sort of get the idea of the place, or are you returning for the nth time and hoping to see something you've not seen before?

If the former, a primer!

Do: walk around Old Town (Staré Město). Just walk around. You will, without a doubt, see something interesting and beautiful.
Do: walk around the Castle (Hradčany)
Do: walk around Vyšehrad (a smaller castle complex, lovely and calmer than the megacastle)

Skip: the astrological clock. For real. YWIA.

Definitely hike up Petřín hill; make sure to hit up the Magic Cavern on your way down - it's the best..

As for theater and music:

The Roxy/Nod was my favorite experimental theater/music joint - Roxy is is the music club, and Nod is the theater. They have a great (if sort of mod-pretentious, which I kind of dig) cafe/bar/art gallery that is cool to check out. They sell SEVERAL different kinds of juice, which is cool, if you're into juice.

The Archa is also cool for theater.

Also the Meet Factory for experimental art of all kinds.

You could visit the Sedlec Ossuary about 70 km away or an hour by train.

Take a tour to the concentration camp at Terezin (Theresienstadt), if you have any interest in WW2 history. I found it fascinating.

I went to the Ungelt Jazz & Blues Club a number of times and really enjoyed it. As davidjmcgee said, definitely hike up Petřín hill.

One of my favorite things we ever did was rent a car and drive up north to Český ráj where we booked a small room at this place and spent the day hiking trails and looking at the crazy rock formations. It was wonderful.

We went to Lucerna Music Bar on a whim when we were there a couple of summers ago, and had no idea that one of our favorite bands, Yeasayer, happened to be playing that very night!

The show was fantastic and the venue was great. Perhaps you'll have similar luck if you head there??
