What the heck is this song?

Please help me ID this song used in the last episode of a not so popular tv show in 2003...

The show was called The Book Group.
I've tried everything. Googling lyrics, random phrases, forums etc. No one seems to know.
At first listen it's very much like a Spiritualized song, but I can't place it all.
This has literally been driving me nuts for years. So much so that I decided to upload this and get some help.

Given that all of the relevant google searches seem to be people (perhaps you?) asking about the song, and given that the style and singing sounds somewhat similar to the theme song/end credit music, I'd guess it was something composed specifically for the show. Robert Hodgens (who had some minor musical success in the early 1980s with the Bluebells) and Marco Rea are listed as composers, for what that's worth.

I just spent a lot of time googlin' around as well -- I looked through some of the music of Hodgens, Fraser and Marco Rea, but it is hard to pinpoint.

Which episode was that song on? I scrolled through what I thought was the last episode (on Hulu), but didn't find it. Maybe the credits for that episode would have some clues?

No help here, but I have to say now I'm interested too! And it looks like I've found a new series to watch, too. So thanks for that. :)

The music in question is in Series 2, Episode 6, "A'salaam Insha'lah", about 24 minutes into the episode.

Best answer: I e-mailed Channel 4, and received this (very quick and courteous!) reply:

Thank you for contacting Channel 4 Viewer Enquiries regarding BOOK GROUP.

A lot of time and effort goes into making our shows and your feedback is very appreciated.

I believe the song you are referring to is called "Alone Can Be Sweet" by Marco Rea and Robert Hodgens but it seems that this piece of music was made specifically for the programme and was never released for commercial purchase.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us here at Channel 4 and for your interest in our programming.

Regards,

Dylan Redmond

Response by poster: Geeze, well thanks! Wow. I don't know what to say. I never thought to contact channel 4. What an idiot I am.

I must say though that I'm going to find a way to contact Rea and Hodgens and get this song. Its fantastic.
