Crap, almost hit my eye.

First time sewing here, and a piece of plastic presser foot snapped and flew into my face. It was used for "general" sewing, and came as one of the accessories for the Singer 2210 model. Preferably I'd like to buy an exact replacement, but failing that, what should I use to reattach the piece like nothing had happened?

Best answer: If that part gets subjected to enough stress to snap virgin plastic, it's unlikely that any kind of repair joint will prove strong enough. Getting a replacement part really is your most realistic option. They don't seem hard to find.

Best answer: Singer feet are very easy to find, even at craft stores like Joann's or Hobby Lobby. Probably at lots of others as well, and they can be found everywhere online.

Did the foot itself actually break, or did the foot come off the stem (that attaches to the machine). Some singer feet are designed to pop off the stem. Also, in a pinch, if it's a clean break of the actual plastic foot, superglue will probably work for the time being until you can get another.

Though I do have to ask what you were sewing to break a machine foot?

The feet on sewing machines under normal usage would never see enough pressure to snap even a plastic foot except for existing flaws in the plastic or user error.

Response by poster: I think I found it. This question was asked because I wasn't confident there was anymore since the model is so old. Like I said, I'm a total newb. Thanks flabdablet and Orb!

As for the broken presser foot, I really have no clue how a tiny piece snapped off the tip. I didn't pull back the two threads after threading the machine, and perhaps it caught around tip of the foot and snapped it off as I was sewing? I'll probably never know.

Best answer: Singer has maintained a standard for their attachments forever. The feet from my grandmother's Singer treadle machine fit my oh-so-much newer one and all the ones in between. It's one of the great things about buying a name-brand machine from a company that's been around a while.

There's no telling why yours broke. It is possible the thread loop had something to do with it, because not keeping that thing out of the way can cause all manner of "technical difficulties". LOL! I've been sewing since before there were such things as plastic feet, so when I bought my new machine which had one, I immediately switched it out to something I knew I could trust not to break, and when you get further along in sewing, there are some fabrics that just don't feed well with the plastic ... but you'll figure that all out as you go. ;)

Just wait until you discover all the specialty feet! They've got one for everything these days!
