Snow Day!

NYC snow day! Where can I buy a sled on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, and where are the best places to go sledding in Central Park? Thanks!
Response by poster: A good thought, but I think that location is closed (as in, closed down, not closed for the day). I'll swing by - though their listed phone number is now some Citibank number.

That Blades is closed. Try hardware stores (there's an Ace on First Avenue); they're generally where I have found sleds (I've had more luck with chain hardware stores than mom & pops).

In Central Park, the basin on 97th St is where we go.

Response by poster: Thanks, everyone! I wound up going to Rainbow on 76th and 1st. They still have some sleds (of the plastic variety, natch).
Still interested in hearing about some more sledding locations - gonna head back out soon!

The block of 91st street between 2nd and 3rd is closed to traffic and it's a somewhat steep hill. I bet you could try sledding there, I saw kids doing it on the last snowstorm.

Response by poster: Gaspode, did you mean the boat basin at 79th street (rather than 97th street)?
Fala: We checked out 91st street, but people had erected all kinds of snow... blockades, I guess. It wasn't just snowmen, but really, snow barriers. I don't know why this was done.
We wound up going to the park and found a few smallish hills in the low 100s. It took a fair bit of effort, but we carved several good runs into the hills. The snow was so thick that if you sat down on a sled, you just sank in, so we had to "sculpt" the hill, as it were. SO much fun. What a day!

Nope, I meant 97th Street. By basin, I just meant a slope like a basin, not a particularly named thing. I should have qualified with the east side.
There is also Pilgrim Hill on 72nd, which is super popular.
