Annoying Icons

Hi. How the hell do I fix this annoying thing on my taskbar? [mi]

I have no idea how this happened, but somehow three instances of my Network Connections have magically appeared to the right of my task bar. (screenshot). When I right-click, the option to delete is grayed out. I've searched everywhere, but I can't figure out how to get this off my bar. It causes a problem because any windows I have open go into scrunch mode. I have a feeling there is a deceptively simple answer to this, but I'm clueless.

Best answer: If you're running an older version of windows (and it looks like you might be): have you tried just grabbing it (probably along the vertical line at the beginning of the toolbar) and dragging it onto the desktop. That usually seperates it from your start bar, which might allow you to close it.

Response by poster: I'm running XP, so dragging things on the taskbar just means it makes a trillion copies of it. So, sadly, that doesn't work. But thanks.

Response by poster: OH WAIT. Never mind. That actually did work. Thank you, gd779! Now I don't have to cry every time I turn on my monitor.

In a related vein, my taskbar insists on showing the network icon even when the LAN is unplugged.

How do I get rid of that? Lan/Properties/Show on taskbar is unchecked.
