Research says I can take a Trailways or Flix bus directly from downtown Detroit, including the border crossing, but the bus doesn't get into Toronto 'til ~9pm. Alternatively, I could take the VIA train from Windsor for a 6pm arrival. That timing is ideal, but getting to the train station in Windsor from Detroit is a bit annoying. [more inside]

Hello - I know that Detroit is experiencing some heavy flooding this week, but I am planning travel in the next many weeks there, and reading about hours-long waits to pick up and or return rental cars to other destinations is making me a little anxious about how it is there (under non-flooding conditions.) Has anyone been there recently and picked up a rental car at the airport?

In a week, I'll be heading to Detroit with a few high schoolers as part of my denomination's Youth Gathering. With over 30,000 Lutherans heading to town, my people will be everywhere. Over the last decade, I've heard many rumours of informative guided tours, of groups and individuals, BY groups and individuals, of the area destroyed during the 1967 riots in Detroit. I have always wanted to go, and am now trying to plan something with a friend the weekend of October 12th. The only solid lead I had, an elderly history buff and longtime Detroit resident who had given tours to family friends in the past, is no longer giving tours, and google doesn't list any tours with this particular theme. I am very much hoping someone here can help!

My wife and kids are flying into Detroit for my grandfathers 90th birthday. They have never experienced Michigan in the summertime. I would like to find a nice lake to rent a house / cottage within a few hours of Detroit. We will only have a few days after the party so recommending Traverse or Ludington is probably not going to work without feeling really rushed. Can anyone recommend a lake / area within a few hours of Detroit where my wife can experience the beauty that is Michigan?
