Getting from Geneva to Aix-les-Bains (and beyond) with 2 bike cases

A couple cycling friends of mine are taking a guided bike tour through the Alps in June. Their tour company (that one of them has used before) has everything covered during the ride but aren't proving very helpful in explaining how to move around Europe with two big bike cases (in addition to the usual backpack). Help with a Swiss + et all Trip!

My wife has a work trip planned to Switzerland in early September. We can spend around a week there but she'll have two days for work in a small town in east Switzerland (Films) where it'll be difficult for me to stay (or super boring). Looking for places that one of us can hole up while other is working for those two days and for the other days where things might not be as expensive (so close by countries are an option). We'll probably need to fly in and out of Zurich. [more inside]

What to do on a spontaneous Switzerland trip starting ASAP?

I'm flying from the US to Zurich tomorrow, solo, on a last-minute ~10 day trip. I'm looking to hike, take in art and architecture, marvel at functional railways, and move around the country a bit. Where should I go? What should I do? [more inside]

European Travel (for work): suggestions to make it awesome

Next week I'm leaving for Europe for work. I'll be gone 2-3 weeks. It's been about 12 years since I left the country, so I'm looking for suggestions on how to make this amazing. I have a lot of leeway over when I need to actually be at certain places, and I've padded in a few days here and there to give myself some time to see the sights. I have some questions about what to bring and what to do.< [more inside]

Andermatt to Zurich?

I'll be traveling early in the morning from Andermatt to Zurich, by bus and train (via Goschenen, Erstfeld, and Zug). Anything I should know about buses in Switzerland? Can we expect them to be on time? Or speak English? We have a plane to catch and timing might be tight. Any advice appreciated, including emergency alternatives (taxis?) if the plans break down.

a couple days in Zurich

I'll have some free time in Zurich this coming week -- my first time in the city and in Switzerland. Where should I go and what should I do? I'm thinking more in the arena of culture, architecture, and the arts rather than partying. (I don't drink.) Thanks!

Moving to Geneva from US for 2 months

Just got a great opportunity to work out of a client's office in Geneva for 2 months (as a consultant through my US company). I'm working through the logistics now. Any recommendations for where in Geneva to live? Good neighborhoods, etc...(The office is in Petit Lancy). Recos on where to look for a short term rental? (already looking on Airbnb) I know I'll need to figure out a local cell or intl plan for my ATT iphone and some sort of supplemental health insurance. What else am I not thinking of???

Best peaceful 2-3 day trips FROM Lausanne, Switzerland

I'm going to be in Switzerland for the last two weeks of October! Thanks to this question, I have a lot of good tips for day trips while in Lausanne, Switzerland. My question to you: where should I go FROM Lausanne for an overnight trip--2, max 3 days? My husband will still have some work at the EPFL, so were not taking a long trip outside of Switzerland. I'm looking for recommendations for some peaceful, beautiful nature (but comfortable lodgings) places to go, whether in Switzerland, Italian Alps, or...(insert idea here). I'd like to minimize travel time to <1 day, so that we spend more time relaxing and less time getting there. Any suggestions for overnight stays that are comfortable but surrounded by beautiful nature? Any favorite places in the Swiss or Italian Alps? We're into hiking and sitting around fires eating/drinking in equal measure, and prefer nature to big city experiences. Thank you!

Neat place to stay between DC and Winterthur?

We want to stop overnight somewhere around Winterthur, so we can wake up, drive to the museum, see the gardens, and head back to the City. What towns along the way are worth staying in? Any notable hotels or B&B's? We're driving back from DC to NYC around June 22. [more inside]
