Paris with a peanut-allergic three-year-old -- tips for delicious nut-free dining?

We're heading to Paris for a week -- hurrah! Only catch: my three-year-old daughter has a really serious peanut and tree-nut allergy. She needs to avoid anything that could conceivably contain even a trace of nuts. Is she going to have to live off Goldfish crackers, or can we find safe dining options for her and ourselves? short term communications in Paris?

My wife and I are going to Paris for a few weeks. Yay! Unfortunately I'll be in and out of conferences for the first 5 days while she is out sightseeing. My schedule will probably be pretty unpredictable, so we'd like to have an easy way to keep in touch, but cell phone rentals seem pretty expensive, especially since we'll only need it for a few days. We don't even really need voice - texting would work. Any ideas for cheap, short-term communications in Paris?

Make a Bored Dad in France into a Sophisticate

Mefi French Folk and Francophiles, please help out my dad! My dear dad is stuck in the little town of Argenton Chateau (recently renamed Argenton Vallee)- which I think is about 50 km away from Tours, I think, and Angers , I think, and just south of the Loire Valley, I think. He has nothing to do all day but read his Kindle and sit at the local cafe while my mom is in a painting class in the little village for the next three weeks. Do you have recommendations for day trips and sights in the area? [more inside]

How to plan a trip to Paris

I'm planning a trip to Paris from Boston for my family (wife, 3 girls 13, 11, 9) sometime over the summer. I don't know what I'm doing. How do I find the least expensive flights? Are there tricks to knowing when to leave and return? e.g. are there travel days that get better rates; leave on a Wednesday and return on Monday for cheapest flights? What's the minimum number of days we should stay to make it worth the trip? I was thinking 5-6 days. Is July better than August in Paris? Do you have a favorite place to stay while in Paris? hotel? b&b? youth hostel? Thank you!

Can I buy health insurance as a long-stay visitor in France?

I'm an American living in France on a long-stay visitor's visa (I'm here as an artist in residence working on comics in Angoulême). To get my visa, I had to prove I had health insurance. At the time of my visa application, I had American health insurance which covered only emergencies abroad, so I assumed that if anything came up, I would pay out of pocket here in France and then, well, go home if anything really grave came about. I also bought travelers insurance from World Nomads to cover repatriation (necessary for the visa). Now, because of reasons that I wont go into here, I have lost my American health insurance and am left with only the travelers insurance, which is really not sufficient. I'd like to stay in France and am planning to renew my visa for another year, so I want to make sure everything is in order. I'd also like to be covered! Is it possible to buy French health insurance as a foreigner who is technically a "non-resident"? I've googled a bit and found some links to various companies who seem to do just this, but I would like to hear from others who have done the same or who know something about it.

Paris to Sauternes and back

I have to be in Paris for an academic conference on May 31 to June 1st. On June 2nd, there's a marathon in Sauternes, which appears to be about 6-7 hours south-west of Paris by car. My question is (1) having never been to France, and never traveled around Europe except by train and since college, can I get from Paris to Sauternes in time to run the race at 8:30am the next morning realistically? And (2) can you help me logistically plan this ahead of time so that it minimizes risk of getting lost, missing the race, and spending a lot of money? I will be flying out of Paris, fyi, and haven't booked any flights yet.
