Help us plan a special, multi-generational birthday in Paris!

Traveling to Paris next week with family, and looking for ideas for something special for my mother's upcoming 60th birthday...

Our group will also include my wife, infant son (8 months old) and my 30 year-old brother. We're staying in a private apartment in the 7th for the first week of July. In case it matters, my brother speaks reasonably good French.

We'll be going to lots of restaurants that week, so ideally this would be some sort of non-restaurant activity (unless you can recommend something very novel that will also be compatible with very small children).

I'm wide open to suggestions here, so for those of you familiar with Paris, what's a great way for a visitor to celebrate her 60th birthday in the city with her family? One idea that popped into my head was to charter a nice little boat for a tour of the Seine... we'd bring our own cheese and Champagne. Is that doable? I'd be willing to spend about $1000 USD for whatever we do.

There are some great suggestions in this question asked previously, but we have a little baby in the mix, and my mom has been to Paris on many occasions before...

There are several options for dinner cruises on the Seine, which should fit into your budget. Here's a nice round-up of the choices.
