We're from Atlanta, Georgia (where it's already warm), and we'll be travelling with our children to Calgary next week. The problem is that our kids have outgrown this year's winter jackets and the stores around us all have beach gear for sale instead of any remaining winter apparrel. Can anyone tell me if there's any place in Calgary where we might still be able to buy puffer jackets for them? I've checked Wal-Mart's website, but it doesn't look like they're still in stock :(. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks!

So yeah, and this will probably be unusual, because the place I'm interested in isn't where people normally go to. The place is Calgary and by extension Alberta. I'm not generally very conservative, at least not socially. I sort of agree with some better economic ideas that conservatives have in general, but it is really dependent on which. I feel like they also have a bunch of wacky stuff when it comes to economics. [more inside]

I'm planning a mini-honeymoon trip for this coming August to Glacier/Waterton NP. We're pretty familiar with the Glacier side and will be starting on the US side in the Many Glacier area, but I also want to add on a night in Waterton which we know very little about. What are some fun things to do in Calgary (and vicinity) in July? I'm going to be there with some relatives for two/three weeks. Is it worthwhile going to the Stampede? What can I expect there? I think I'd like to do some hiking but no idea what would be a good choice in that regard. I also like theatre, science, history, dining, music (piano especially). Are there any multi-day courses being offered in these subjects then?

Hello, good citizens of Calgary and surrounding areas. The news just informed me that you recently received a record-breaking amount of snow. A friend and I are flying up tomorrow for a weekend in the Rockies, visiting Jasper and Banff. According to Banff Now, roads remain open, so we're continuing as planned. Planning a trip to the Banff/Jasper area late June-early July. Not our first, but first in 8 years or so. There was an excellent thread on MeFi in 2008 concerning accomodations, but some of the links have expired. I will be there for a milestone birthday and want to wake up somewhere amazing. Must have internet/wifi. Must be close enough to amenities that if the weather is abysmal, we'll still have nice things to do within slogging distance. Don't want to spend a milliion bucks, but are willing to shell out for somewhere which is worth the money.
