So I'm doing my Working Holiday in Australia and I purposely started in Sydney so I could experience the big New Year's celebration here. I'm visiting Sydney this weekend for the Festival of Dangerous Ideas and have all of Friday (and a few hours of Saturday) to kill while my friend is working. I'm from Melbourne and have visited Sydney many times and seen all the Sydney landmarks and touristy spots (The Rocks, Darling Harbour, Sydney Tower, Bridge climb etc) before. [more inside]

Where are the best places to 1) see an improv comedy show in Sydney, 2) see a punk/hardcore show in Melbourne, 3) get to relatively quickly from either of those cities to be able to see the outback (as opposed to the bush, which has already been seen on this trip)? I'll be cruising the southern Caribbean, stopping at Antigua, St. Lucia, Grenada, Barbados, and St. Kitts and would like to do some good snorkeling at one of those islands. I don't mind having to charter a boat or do some kayaking in calm waters to get there, but I want to see some serious fish and coral. Previously, I had a great time at Waterlemon Cay in St. John, USVI and Captain Cook Cove in Kona, Hawai'i, but was not at all impressed by Trunk Bay, also in St. John, or Nassau, Bahamas.
