How do I copy browser histories & saved passwords from one machine to another on XP?

My PC got hit by a trojan. Not dead, but not well. The only way to be sure is to nuke it from orbit. Is there any way I can grab the browser profiles for IE and Firefox and re-install them after reformatting so that I still have my web history, saved passwords, etc?

I *think* the XP migration tool that should be installed on your machine will allow you to backup and then import all of your IE settings. Just tell it to ignore everything EXCEPT IE.

Response by poster: Can I do this for different users than the one I'm logged in as? I have two user profiles both of which were semi-dorked. I'd prefer not to have to log in as then to get the data.

For Firefox, most of everything is packaged nicely into folders for you. Here's where to find them (for all users) and how to restore them later.

For firefox, MozBackup. It'll save cookies, password, extentions &c., it works like a charm.

Exactly. You really don't need any tools at all, just copy the profile directory and keep on going.
