pepper vinegar

I live in New York City and I'm trying to get a bottle of the southern 'pepper vinegar' pronto (something like 'texas pete's pepper sauce). Anyone know where you can find this southern staple up gotham way? The big grocery store, Fairway, was of no help...
Ha! That's what I was going to recommend. Hill Country does have a small store, so I would try there.

Also, try the Goya section. They have basically the same peppers-soaking-in-vinegar deal, it's just a matter of finding it.

I bet Kalustyan's has it. I go there for my pickled okra needs.

The restaurant OTT in Greenpoint serves jalapeño slices floating in vinegar as a condiment with their meals, if you get desperate.

I love good pepper sauce. I found Unca Duke's Geaux Jus (scroll down). It rocks.

Interesting! My transplanted-southern aunt introduced me to the concept of a bottle of vinegar with some sliced jalapenos left to soak in it, but I never knew you could buy it in a store. It's great on black-eyed peas though (the bean--never tried it with the band.)

I'm fairly certain all Stop N Shops carry Texas Pete. It's where I buy mine anyway.

Like agentofselection, I've always made my own--put some peppers (I use whole habaneros) in a bottle, add salt and sugar, if you like, fill bottle with white distilled vinegar. Easy!
