Have you tried asking at a grocery store with a fish counter? That's where I usually get dry ice (but I'm not in California).

Depending on how much you need, there's a dry ice mfr in Richmond: Airgas Dry Ice, 731 W Cutting Blvd, Richmond, CA - (510) 236-4787

Failing that, you might check local ice cream shops. Finally, if you've got a friend at UC Berkeley or LBL, the labs will likely have some as well.

Fish stores and Ice Cream Shops use dry ice? Well. I learned something today.

I'm not in California, but my local Baskin-Robbins always has dry-ice available.

My local Raleys Supermarket has dry-ice for sale, it's just inside the door by the regular ice.

Praxair sells it too. They have a location in Emeryville. Praxair location

The gas station on the corner of Market & Grand in West Oakland has carried it in the past - I got it there a few years ago, also right before BM.

I used to get mine at the Albertsons on MacArthur and 39th Ave.

Around here (which, granted, is nowhere near you) most if not all grocery stores carry dry ice. Give some of them a call...

Locally, the same company that sells CO2 for soda machines sells dry ice (seeing as how dry ice is solid CO2). If you're looking for large quantities this is the route to go. They offered it in pellets or large 10 (I think) pound blocks.

I've gotten it both at grocery stores and at ice suppliers.
