Depression support in Chicago

Looking for Depression (and other mental health) support groups in the Chicago area that meet actively and would welcome new members. I'm aware of the Depression meetup group but it seems to be more of a social group while I'm seeking something more therapeutic in nature. Are there any? Information about therapists who might be leading any such groups would also be helpful. Thanks.

You might look for local community mental health resources, and see if they keep a list of internal/external groups in the area. These groups tend to evolve and change fairly rapidly in my experience, though that is simply an outsiders view (I work at a mental health provider, but not a clinician).

Also try local hospital's? They probably know what is available, or where to find more information. Unfortunately the net might not be your best resource in this endeavor.

Take care of yourself.

Seconding ClaudiaCenter's recommendation. DBSA groups can be extremely helpful.

Third for DBSA--if it does not work for you I would imagine they will have other suggestions. I would also check the website of Northwestern Dept. of Psychiatry for community resources and support groups. Good Luck
