What happens when women with nipple piercings breastfeed?

Can women with pierced nipples still breastfeed? I know you'd have to remove the jewellery, but does scar tissue and/or the existence of extra holes affect anything?

Best answer: a bajillion answers about this on the bme qod.

in short: not really, though maybe some extra milk will come out the piercing holes. also, piercings should be well healed before breastfeeding.
