Way more somber, but if we're going down the Super Furry Animals path, I offer up "Carry the Can", which features the lyric "Evolution stops right here with me, my descendants will be fish." The song is basically "I don't know why all of this destruction is our responsibility because it's not our fault and we can't fix it so just I kind of give up."

"My descendants will be fish" just feels so bleak to me and I love it.

I also came to suggest Bloody Motherfucking Asshole by Martha Wainwright. It could not be more perfect for the mood you describe.

Army of Me by Bjork is also just right for this mood.

This little ditty has just about saved my life on numerous occasions. Its tone is more “cheerful nihilism”, but if that works for you, you might like it a great deal. No More Fucks to Give

Thank you for this question, which is quite possibly the only song rec question I can bring anything to, and that is The Ballad of Steven Slater. For those who don't recall the name, it commemorates a former flight attendant who had one bad customer encounter too many, announced he was quitting over the airplane speaker system, and then took off down the slide. Humming its gentle chorus of "Fuck you all; fuck all of you," is the only thing that gets me through some days, even after all these years.

"Fuck You" by Ceelo Green for singing the 'fuck'-filled chorus at stoplights.
"More Human than Human" by White Zombie for when you need just lots of loud.
"Killing in the Name" by Rage Against the Machine for channeling their anger and also yelling along with the last minute of the song.
"50 ft Queenie" by PJ Harvey for her pure bad-ass goddessness in this one.

The entirety of Reel Big Fish’s 97 album “Why Do They Rock So Hard?” encapsulated the angst and fury and manic aggression of being 14 at the time, and hoo-boy are those emotions popping back up again lately. In particular the ska/metal mashup song “Everything Is Cool” hits the spot.

Violet by Hole has this mood for me, particularly for the "Go on, take everything!" refrain.

(Also, I very much support ourobouros' rec for "No more fucks to give" - that got me through the pandemic and continues to help me today.)

Although the lyrics are about a failed romance, I feel like the overall vibe of this song fits the bill – especially the title. Replace "I'm" with "We're" for added effect.

Tom Waits, "Looks Like I'm Up Shit Creek Again"

Follow-up to previous entry: these two Metallica songs are probably more suitable, since there's no pretense of subtlety. Just pure rage, speed and volume. "Plus violent, tu meurs" as they say in French. (Translation: any more violent and it would kill you.)

wow, this is such an amazing question, WPOFIBH! I listen to a lot of really dark, moody music. I call it "pressing on a bruise" music because why on earth would we listen to sad/angry music? well why on earth do we press on our bruises? (we do)

I'm surprised there is not more Nine Inch Nails on here. nearly anything on Fragile will fit the bill.

Check out the Sneaker Pimp's album Splinter.

David Sylvian? Try When Poets Dreamed of Angels

Check out By_Alexander Trumpets I don't know what the hell this song is about, but it's positively apocalyptic

and no Radiohead? omg. I would say OK Computer is there bleakest album, on the whole but none of their stuff is happy.

This nightmare will end and these are the two songs I've had in the queue since 2016 for whenever this nightmare ends:

Tramp the Dirt Down by Elvis Costello

Well I hope I don't die too soon
I pray the lord my soul to save
Oh I'll be a good boy, I'm trying so hard to behave
Because there's one thing I know, I'd like to live
Long enough to savor
That's when they finally put you in the ground
I'll stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down

At Your Funeral by Pinhead Gunpowder
At your funeral
Things'll be different
I will feel so good
I'll pass out cigars
Bring a big ol' cake
And a keg, yes
I can hardly

I can hardly wait 'til they read, read your eulogy
"Ha ha ha!" at your family
"Let's be honest guys," I'll say
"Better late than never"

Not as thematically as on the nose, but I got (get) a lot of catharsis out of pretty much all of Dilate
and from Ani DiFranco it's just a hop-skip-jump to Utah Phillips. But then that's strolling dangerously close to "don't mourn, organize" and the temptation to get a bunch of like-minded individuals and a trashcan of axe handles.

Cannot believe we've gone this far without a mention of Rammstein. Pretty much anything, but some highlights include Amerika (it's satire), Mein Land and Engel (for extra nihilism have linked the vid mashed up with Neon Genesis Evangelion clips).

Agree that NIN's Year Zero is spot on, but also Head Like a Hole and pretty much all of The Downward Spiral.

The National, Turtleneck which was apparently written in response to Trump's election.

Metric - Doomscroller, Dark Saturday, Help I'm Alive, Gold Guns Girls. They are all round pretty awesome.

Sleater-Kinney has lots that would apply but will just single out the album The Center Won't Hold which is possibly my fave. Particularly the title track, Ruins, Bad Dance and The Future Is Here.
