Put 'em on, put 'em on, put 'em on me

My makeout playlist needs a refresh.

it's been a few years since this question was last asked.

Right now I'm serving up stuff from Sinead O'Connor, Funkadelic, Purson, Cocteau Twins, Dengue Fever, Kendra Smith, Beta Band, Troublemakers. And that's all dope/worthy shit but the youngest of those songs is old enough to be composing its own sexytimes playlist.

and yeah, I could always turn Spotify loose on this problem, those algorithms do acceptable work, but alas I am old-fashioned and believe in human dignity. Algorithms may get to choose our special naked friends, but they don't get to choose what we listen to during special naked time.

So what is the latest human thinking on the topic? This list of artists above is not prescriptive, there are no wrong answers here. Since it's Friday I'll even entertain hilariously wrong ones like "Spock's Beard" or "Mike and the Mechanics" or "Jethro Tull."

How best can i support this most worthy effort?
Are you looking for…
- bands/artists
- specific tracks
- genres
- existing playlists
?

My special naked friend put Karen O’s LUX PRIMA on one of our makeout lists and at first i was a bit skeptical but later found myself very … non-skeptical. ;-)

Also recommend a few (but not all) cuts from I See You by the XX.

Response by poster: jerome powell etc... suggestions of individual songs are probably most useful in that they give me an entry point into a new-to-me artist. suggestions of an album would be dope too in the case where entire record is made of sex, like Massive Attack's Mezzanine.

thank you for the clarifying question. Plz excuse threadsitting.

Right then… you will love that Sade track

Definitely not... current, but maybe there's something in here you can use. All on the chill side.

Todd Terje - "Johnny and Mary (ft. Bryan Ferry)

Beach House - "Runaway" - "Pay No Mind" - "Woo"

Infinite Bisous - Period

The Fauns - "Fragile"

Broken Social Scene - Feel Good Lost

Best answer: Since you mentioned Massive Attack, if you have access to SiriusXM, the app-only channel Classic Chill is very, very good. Others you'll hear on there include Air, Royksopp, Portishead and Boards of Canada.

I regret that all my suggestions are covers.

The Mavericks cover of Harvest Moon might scratch some itches.
On that same vein, Raul Malo has a great cover of Cha Cha Cha D’amour from his 2021 Quarantunes, Vol 1 album (the whole album is a gem, I recommend).
The Heavy Heavy cover of Real Love Baby.

Grace Jones' Pull Up to My Bumper might win for best double entendre.
You Can Leave Your Hat On by Etta James had better be on there.

Can't go past Simply Red's Something Got Me Started

Joanna by Cool and the gang is nice, as long as you're not known to have an ex called Joanna!

Alison Moyet especially the Alf Album

For a more subtle vibe I can't recommend whale song sounds enough. I don't have a specific recording in mind, often sold for 'sleep, relax, study' but ime has other applications.

I love a huge range of very recent music but love seems to have gone out of the world of a lot of newer sounds.

Australian radio network Double J just aired their Filthy Fifty: the best songs about sex.

Not all are great makeout songs, just songs with filthy lyrics that celebrate sex, but there's definitely some great ones on there!

Found some great ones by looking for sapphic-inspired/wlw lyrics recently:

Succulent: be steadwell
Oh My God: Pink and Peaches (and I am not a fan of Pink, but this is hot as hell)
Drive: Melissa Ferrick
Pop That: Shermanology
A Woman Is a God: Tommy Genesis
Honey: Kehlani
if you think I'm pretty: Artemas
Two Weeks: fka twigs
Confide In Me: Kylie Minogue (an oldie but hella goodie)
Anything by Cobrah

Now just have to find someone to make out with, haha!

You beat me to How Does It Feel, umbú! So good.

A killer track I stumbled over a few years ago is Nightlife, by Ray Price.

Best answer: Upon reflection, I would also like to offer:

Billie Eilish - Billie Bossa Nova
Luna Li - Opal Angel

Hang on, Jethro Tull is *not* hilariously wrong here. Hunting Girl!

Response by poster: listening...

Whoah, the heavy eruption in the Luna Li track ... just when you think the sudden loud thing is played out, you hear something like this.

The bass in the Internet track is filthy.
