Soundtrack to getting it on

I need some makeout music for bedroom scenes

I'm looking for ambient makeout music. My usual go-to is Air or Boards of Canada. Specifically I want ambient, with no vocals. No dance tracks, but not as slow as spa music. Anything with a sort of dream-pop edge that would appeal to Gen-Xers in a gentle femdom scene is the holy grail.

This Gen X-er’s go-to in college was My Bloody Valentine.

Hmm, femdom, Gen-X... try something off the Labyrinth soundtrack. (Yes, everyone knows the David Bowie songs, but the score is memorable, dreamlike, and gorgeous.)

All the Vangelis

I feel the need to suggest Amon Tobin. Perhaps something like Slowly from the album Supermodified.

Caveat: I find his style to be quite unpredictable and there are sound/Foley(?) effects, so that can make it a crapshoot. Like, I love the groove of Stoney Street but the background smoking audibles sounds seem out of place for your needs. Yet the tracks that follow it on the album Bricolage, Easy Muffin and Yasawas, might be a good fit.

Plantasia (1976), sexier than Vangelis, imo.

Great answers above, though most have vocals. Hard to beat 90s trip hop as mentioned. Maybe some Portishead?

If psychedelic synth pop with distorted vocals are ok, check out dreamsicle bomb.

Best answer: Nightmares on Wax - Carboot Soul
Lemon Jelly - Lemon Jelly KY
Osborne - Osborne
Prins Thomas - Prins Thomas
Ulrich Schnauss - A Strangely Isolated Place
Tosca - Suzuki

GenX’er here. You may laugh, but: Bang on a Can, “Music for Airports” by Brian Eno.

Maybe try some Delhi 2 Dublin ("Dreaming," "Synchronicity," "Get On The Bus," "Nightstep") or Beats Antique ("Miss Levine," "Sweet Demure," "Slapdash Era," "Spiderbite," "Shrine," etc.). Some of the named tracks have bits of wordless singing.

It has vocals, but there is nothing sexier than Portishead.

on the off chance that you prefer something genuinely, strangely, provocatively erotic, do check out 23 Skidoo's The Culling Is Coming

it worked for me

Best answer: It has vocals, but Massive Attack’s Mezzanine is the ultimate Gen X adjacent sex album.

Slightly different take: Morrissey...

How about something like You Beautiful Bastard by The Sea and Cake?

Maybe some of Aphex Twin's gentler stuff? Like gwely mernans or IZ-US?

Disintegration by the Cure. Has some lyrics but they are so secondary to the overall ambient mood that they are just another layer.

Some Morcheeba stuff might fit the bill. (Some probably have more vocals than you are looking for.) Also, since everyone else is thoroughly disregarding the no vocals thing, when I think femme Gen X dream pop, I think Mazzy Star.

Peter Gabriel's album Passion. It's...well, it's kind of the soundtrack he did for Last Temptation of Christ; the reason it's "kind of" the soundtrack is that Peter tinkered with things a bit between turning the music over to Martin Scorcese, and releasing it on an album.

There are some tracks that may be a little too drummy and fast-paced, but others (like Zaar, maybe) will suit.

Best answer: Actually, Beat Blender on Soma is probably a better fit.

Best answer: Maybe this is too weird but I’ve had incredible bedtime moments to Future Sound of London, specifically the track My kingdom.
