Help me make a playlist for my dog's birthday
January 4, 2023 1:39 PM   Subscribe

It is my dog's 1st birthday on Saturday and we are throwing him a party. Tell me what songs I should add to the playlist.

- Preferably, the song would be on Spotify, but I'm still interested even if it's not.
- Song can be dog-themed, birthday-themed, feature a dog, about a dog, or whatever-- even just a vibe. Just tell me what the prompt made you think of.
- Make your choices as eclectic as you want them. Unlike a previous Ask, there will be no children at this party so it can be very inappropriate if you like.

Current selections include:
- "Who Let the Dogs Out (Barkin Mad Remix)" by the Baha Men
- "Here Comes a Special Boy" by Freezepop
- "Dogsong" by Toby Fox
- "DOGLAND" by PEOPLE 1
- "Happy Birthday" by Altered Images

Puppy Love as performed by Paul Anka. A version exists by Donny Osmond, as well.

Best answer: "Scorching Savanna" from the We ♥ Katamari soundtrack, performed by John the Dog, Bigmouth the Duck, Yuuhi the Crow, Pe the Goat, Booby the Pig, Sexy the Cat, and Nyuu the Cow.

Also found it on Spotify under the name "Killing Hot Savannah".

Also, Dog Days Are Over, by Florence and the Machine. Although that may not be the best sentiment, and might worry him.

Also also, if you search YouTube for “dog song”, you’ll pull up a bunch of stuff, which may or may not be appropriate.

Been Caught stealing by Jane's Addiction, just for the excellent barking at the beginning.

He is an exceptionally floofy dog. I appreciate this tax very much.

"It's Not My Birthday" by They Might Be Giants and the song sometimes known as "Viking Birthday" are both good for when you feel like being somewhat weird and contrarian about a birthday.

Best answer: You ain’t nothing but a Hound Dog - Big Mama Thornton.
Maybe Tomorrow - The Littlest Hobo

Phish has a bunch of them.

Runaway Jim. It's about a dog that steals stuff.

Waiting All Night is a beautiful song that, while it doesn't actually mention dogs, is apparently written from the point of view of a dog who has been left alone.

Dogs Stole Things. Kind of a bluesy number about how dogs steal things. I guess Trey had bad luck with dogs.

The Dogs. An instrumental that uses samples from a Walt Disney sound effects record. Lots of dogs barking.

Response by poster: I'll try not to thread sit, but I'll note that both my current playlist and the answers thus far are probably leaning too much towards "dog" and not enough towards "birthday" or "party".

I am also extremely disappointed that I cannot find this Katamari track in my Spotify app, for I presume complex licensing reasons.

You have to have Ruff Ryders Anthem by DMX on there.

Best answer: What a great question. "Even just a vibe," you say?

The opening credit scene for 1994's Dumb and Dumber featured Jeff Daniels dressed as a dog driving a dog shaped car full of dogs to the song Boom Shack-A-Lak by Apache Indian, and ever since then I have associated that particular song with good dog times. It is in fact THE song I would expect to kick off a road trip playlist for a road trip planned both by and for a pack of labrador retrievers.

The song.

Best answer: Altered Images’ Happy Birthday is both a great birthday song, and very bouncy if you are someone who likes to dance with your dog (not that anyone would do that).

Kool & the Gang - Celebration

Boy dog? Deniece Williams - Let’s Hear It for the Boy

This is awesome by the way

(Edited to add - I just reread your question and saw you already have the AI song, so sorry for the duplicate - but as another Keeshond owner, maybe I’m just on your wavelength..)

Cheryl Wheeler has one called My Cat's Birthday. There are dogs in attendance. You could yell Dog anytime she says cat. Cute song anyway.

Response by poster: Thank you dearly for all the answers! I have marked all the ones that have been included as best answers, but this playlist is already over 6 hours long-- omissions needed to be made. It's a pretty eclectic mix of genres, from hyperpop to folk to trap music: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6xTkFuKgVkyx0pwnMXlvFD?si=zv2WQIOEQIOEyKOHziSb2w

I'll probably continue to make adjustments, so please still post any more suggestions if you have them!!

My boy Babka will have a great birthday!!
