Any suggestions for tools to build backgrounds and buttons/icons for web sites?

I'm building a collection of backgrounds and buttons, bullets, icons for future web projects. Are there any tools available to speed up the process besides photoshop and fireworks?

Do you use a Mac? If so, Button Builder is pretty good, and pretty customizable. I used it to make the buttons at Dale Carnegie Montana among other sites I have done. You can customize color, size, font, etc.
