Spotify: Exit, Stage Left (with intact playlists)

Our household was already in the midst of untangling from Amazon Prime, but it's feeling like the right moment to recenter my music collection on a local device. Plenty of stuff on Spotify that I've loved and never owned, and will need to purchase.

The harder part is all the playlists I've created. Somewhere around 500, some with really obscure artists and multiple hours of music in each. I would like to export the playlists, but I don't think there's a way to do it in the app. Is there another way to access and save those as text files or xlsx? How about liked/followed artists?

You could give Spotlistr a whirl.

Disclaimer: I know nothing about them beyond the fact that they passed a cursory check to make sure that their Spotify login process really did involve pulling up the login page at accounts.spotify.com and did not require entering your Spotify credentials into some other place.

You can download them as json arrays using the Spotify API.

I believe that's exactly what Spotlistr's export tool is doing under the hood.

Seconding SongShift. I used it a few months ago to grab all my Spotify playlists, and it was pretty seamless. I paid for a one-month subscription because I had hundreds of playlists, and it was US $10 well spent.

How to break up with Spotify

I just unplugged from Spotify. I followed the guide that gingerbeer posted above, and signed up for a trial on Tidal. Using TuneMyMusic, all but 11 of my 1,000 songs in the playlists I transferred so far were matched and synced via this process. And I downloaded a csv of my entire catalogue for future reference.
