"Something went wrong" isn't enough, Sony

Hi ALl, I'm tearing my hair out a bit here, not literally but close enough. :) I got a PS4 for Christmas, thanks to my brother, and ever since have been struggling to buy games for it. I'd appreciate any help.

As a blind user, my best game purchase option is the Playstation store. This would work fine, except whenever I try to pay for games I get the terribly uninformative "Something went wrong," error. I've seen this across multiple browsers, multiple payment methods, even the dedicated iOS mobile app.

I can't use the console to purchase because the PS4 has a rather… subpar text-to-speech function. I've tried to raise this with support a couple of times and they've been singularly unhelpful, just telling me something about waiting 24 hours between trying to make a purchase, and making sure my billing information is correct (it is.)

The only work-around I have thus far is to buy PS giftcards from, say, Amazon, and redeem them for myself. This is tedious as hell.

Any advice on how to proceed here would be very much appreciated. I'm baffled and want to talk to someone on the phone to resolve this but I can't seem to find an option for that.

The PlayStation player support number is 1-800-345-7669. The website makes it really difficult to find. Hope that helps.

I've had the same issue locating and buying games on the Playstation store in the last week or so, with similarly unhelpful dialogues. I think it's an issue on their end. I ended up buying several games on PC instead, in fact, since I repeatedly got that error.

Sadly I think your best bet is to wait and re-attempt every few hours. Wish I could be of more help, but I do think this is a Sony-side issue.

Chiming in to say that I have also had the same problem in the past week or so. Purchases were fine before that so not an issue with my payment methods. I was also unable to complete a purchase on the website.

Echoing the above comments while adding that this has been an issue for at least a few months now, way before the PS store redesign and PS5 launch. Good luck.

Response by poster: Well, darn. I'm glad I'm not the only one, I guess. I'll keep everyone posted in case I manage to resolve this.

according to some people on Reddit, you can go to "Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PlayStation 4 > Activate" on the PS4 to link a PS4 to your account as your primary console. After this is done, buying games from the browser-based store may work.

No idea if this is right, but it's another thing to try.

I've also had long term problems with buying stuff in the ps store, I finally worked it out before Xmas by fiddling with the settings highlighted by vogon_poet.
