Real estate floor plan photos

Real estate floor plan photos. How do they do that?
I've recently seen listings on trulia showing photos of rooms of a home in floor plan view.
I'm guessing that a camera is attached to the ceiling of the center of a room and then all the rooms are edited together to show the plan view.
Or am I way off?
How's it done?
(I'd link but I don't think it's appropriate to show RE listings)

Best answer: Matterport is a company that has a camera for this. How it works

Best answer: Hi, I work in real estate marketing, but not in the US. Our usual work flow would involve making a 2D floor plan of the property, then creating a 3D model based on that plan (this is nearly always done by a 3rd party based overseas). These 3D models are fairly simplistic with basic textures to represent finishes and that is how the 3D plan view is generated.
There is someone on site with a panoramic camera to take the views of each of the important areas. Studios tend to use different software to stitch the 3D model in with the panoramic shots, but that is the gist of how we do it. Basically very simplistic VR.

When I sold my last place, they brought in Matterport cameras. They placed the camera in several places in each room, then stitched those pictures together. As a bonus, we also got floor plans and measurements automatically.

Sometimes you can see the Matterport camera in a mirror in the photo, sort of like when you can see the Google Street View car/camera in a shiny shop window. (I've clearly been house-hunting for too long!)
