What are the best options for a cell phone plan?

What are the current best plans and deals for an unlimited data cell phone plan?
I recently switched to Virgin Mobile because they had a deal where the first six months were $1/month. Now that the six months are up, it's $50/month.
Metro PCS has a deal that is two months free, $60 off a phone, and then $50 a month for unlimited data.
Are there any deals for switching, or plans, that are better than that. I could do a year contract or month to month. I'm in NYC, if it matters.

Response by poster: I do live-streaming of video at protests, so I need unlimited data.

Sprint still has their free unlimited for a year offer. You have to bring your own compatible device.

Even though you “need”unlimited data, how much do you really use? I am a low data user, because I use wi-if when able. I currently am on Google’s Project Fi which is $20/mo plus data actually used. Data is $10/G up to $60 then no additional charges above that. My bill is usually in the low $20s. The app switches to WiFi if available.
FreedomPop is cheaper; the 10G plan is $20. RedPocket, Ultra.me and and some other mvnos are In the same range. My average bill on a shared unlimited Verizon plan (with 4 other lines was ~$40), but they are offering a promotion of $50 off on the unlimited plan for age 55+ in FL now.

The problem is for video streaming you need not just cheap unlimited, but also reliable. Some of the networks that offer cheap unlimited will still choke speed at a certain point.

I just looked at this and Project Fi is the best deal for unlimited service if you have a compatible phone.
One thing they don't really advertise is you can add 9 (nine!) "data only" SIM cards to put in any device. They all get billed to the same unlimited account. So if you have old phones or tablets you could add a data SIM and use it for protests or as a backup.

Have you been keeping track of how much data you actually use? (I rarely go over 1GB because wifi) because if it's actually sort of low I would recommend ting which (like virgin and boost) are on sprint with the added bonus of free roaming on Verizon...I am like never out of service.
If you really need unlimited then I would stay with virgin or maybe boost.
