Name my kitten!

My partner and I have had the pleasure of fostering six rambunctious kittens and their mom, but our time together is coming to an end. Of course, we're keeping one... And he needs a new name.

The babies all have "placeholder" names so we could talk about them more easily. Our baby's temporary name is Clyde, to match with his adventurous sister Bonnie, but we'd like to pick a different permanent name. Day we rescued him! Today! More kitten tax!

He has a very serious look to him and is for the most part, a very chill kitten, one of the reasons we picked him to join the family. He's lazy and snuggly, but also curious and bright. He's the biggest one of the group and we have jokingly called him the Clydesdale at times.

We're not too picky on names -- human or animal, silly or serious, all good! We are also interested in classic names from myth or books. Some current suggestions are Mephistopheles (probably too long) and Mercury (for his gray). Then I suggested we ask Metafilter, so here we are! Please name our kitten!

He looks like an Arthur to me.

Clyde sounds good! Especially since you can explain that he was the biggest of the litter. (Oops just saw that you don't think it fits.) OK, how about Claude? Or Hercules? Or Poirot? (Grey tuxedo, with what look like impeccable taste.)

Our grey and white kitty is named Gandalf because he is both grey and white. I may be biased but I think it is an excellent name for grey and white kitties.

Mephisto is a strong name! Save Mephistopheles for if he's ever naughty.

Such a gorgeous guy.

I, too, like classic names from literature. The latest addition to my household is Mr. Bingley (a ginger cutie!), pronounced with a very proper British intonation. Maybe you have Mr. Darcy.

"Floyd," which is such a cute name and is Welsh for "one with gray hair." But you could spell it the Welsh way for gray, Llwyd.

Maybe it's the angle of the "tax" photo, but those big ears reminded me a bit of a fennec fox (so, Fennec or just Fen?).

He looks almost exactly like one of my cats, same big ears, same eyes and color distributions. Our guy's name is Milton and I can't imagine him being named anything else, so that's my suggestion.

This little guy looks like he needs a big, serious name to grow into.
I 2nd Mephisto/Mephistopheles, and also offer:
Beelzebub (Beelz/bub for short)
Hephaestus (Hefe?)
Melchizedek (like Sara Crewe's attic-mouse friend)

Okay, maybe Sparky, because of the electricity he seems to exude. Squeee!

How about Clawdio?

It's LIKE Clyde, but it's more Italian, because he looks like the boy in those "Crying Boy" pictures which I perhaps-erroneously think of as Italian. Also, he has claws.

He has such a fabulous mask I figured his name should somehow acknowledge that. My immediate first thought was Batman, because of the ears, but his nose isn't right. I went to this page of masked superheroes for reference, and a few possibilities emerged, but I think the best of the bunch is way down at the end of the list:

Zorro. His name is Zorro.

If you want more photos you can check out my Instagram (linked in profile), and maybe I'll remember to update it once in a while.

If you're a Mefite in the STL area looking for a kitten, I have three more, each cuter than the last. Send me a PM.

Thanks again everybody.
