Google Search Console is disabled, but analytics still track data, how?

I've inherited a Google Analytics accounts from soemoene who resigned but I cannot figure out why this person never turned on the Search Console.
Any Google Analytics/SEO guru's that could figure this out? I mean, the account IS collecting data, its not flat-linining at all, but when you go ot Search Console page it says it is disable. How can Anaytics work if Search Console is turned off? Is there a sensible reason for this?
Thanks!
You need to link google webmaster tools with google analytics- they are different products, though there are links between the two.

Response by poster: So I can leave it disabled? Thanks. Just needed something to tell VP of Data who was convinced Google Console had to be enabled.
For the sake of him saying NO, --- of I turn it on right now, will it mess anything up?
Thank You

Turning it on won't affect anything related to Google Analytics. Like rockindata says, they are separate products.
What is the VP of Data saying it has to be enabled for? It certainly has to be enabled to track some search behavior and how you're indexing, but it obviously doesn't have to be enabled for anything that is already tracking fine (including some sort of "referrals from Google search" metric, which records internally on the Analytics side).

It is useful to have a monitored and linked Search Console account, as they track different things. This is my job so please feel welcome to memail me for more. But yes, doing so - or not doing so - will not affect your Analytics data.
