What is this bug? Thanks!
Response by poster: Location is just north of Boston; found near our cats' water source (on floor). Had some ability to fly--more like a hop. About 1/4 inch in length.

I'm not a beetle expert or anything but that looks like a completely standard Larder Beetle to me. So I'd, you know, check your larders but if you don't see any more around I wouldn't be bothered. They're just around.

Looks like a shield bug AKA Stink Bug! Harmless but stinky.

That does not look like a stink bug to me, and we are quite familiar with them in our household ...

That insect doesn't look like either larder beetle or stinkbug to me, both of which are too familiar to me. Snag it in a sandwich bag and bring to to your local extension service for ID?
