What's happening in Cincinnati?

I'm going to the USITT Conference at the Duke Energy center starting Wednesday and leaving Saturday. What else should I see in Cincinnati?

I'm staying downtown, and won't have a car. Does Uber exist there? I like beer and food, so where should I go for both of those things? Where is the best greasy breakfast? Is there anything funky or fun to do this week?
Thanks

Best answer: Skyline Chili is a must.

Best answer: Browse this site. Try some cincinnati chili while in town. You'll either like it or hate it. Across the river in Newport there is the Hofbrauhaus. Also, if you have some afternoon downtime, there's a fine zoo in Cincy, not too far from downtown. Also, maybe try a cruise on the river for dinner.

on preview: Skyline is the most well-known purveyor of cincy chili, with GoldStar a close second. There are a number of other chili parlors that are quite good. Pleasant Ridge Chili is my personal favorite, but it's a bit far from downtown if you don't have a car.

Enjoy your stay; it's a fine town!

OTR is the hip area of town and should be easily accessible from your location. If you want some great coffee check out coffee emporium. Best cocktail bar in the city is Japp's. My pick for best sandwich is the bahn mi at Le's Pho near the courthouse.

Yes, we have Uber and Lyft in Cincinnati.

I really love the Cincinnati Museum Center. Washington Park is recently renovated and nice. Rhinegeist is a very popular brewery. Tucker's is a good greasy spoon breakfast place in OTR; there's also Taste of Belgium which is more upscale. Definitely try Cincinnati chili!

Best answer: Having trouble linking things with my iPad:

Best greasy breakfast is at Tucker's in Over-the-Rhine. Check out CityBeat for fun and funky things to do (it's our alternative magazine), and for food and drink recommendations. We have a lot of local breweries so you'll have some great choices for beer.

Best answer: Tucker's is indeed the best greasy breakfast but OTR is certainly out of your way for breakfast if you intend on having an early morning at the convention center. To give you perspective, OTR is about a 10-15 walk due north of the convention center.

For beer, the aforementioned Rhinegeist is a great brewery and it has a beautiful old repurposed facility. This Thursday they are holding a lecture on the history of beer in Cincinnati. This is additional 10-15 minutes walk past the heart of OTR and I'd recommend Uber or a taxi to get up here. A closer walk to downtown for a brewery is the Moerlein Lager House. They have a great view of the river and have a nice selection of beers they produce as well as a decent curated list of "guest drafts".

For beer-centric places that aren't breweries there are two in OTR that come to mind. The Lackman is a small place that emphasizes beer and keeps a good rotation of taps. Also in OTR is Halfcut which is a semi-bar + growler refill store. There is also a nice taco window in the same building for food. One other place to consider downtown next to the Lager House is the Yard House. This is a national chain so I wouldn't recommend it for Cincinnati reasons but they have 180+ things on draft so if you are curious you might take a look if they are pouring something you've been dying to try.

For food it is hard to give specific recommendations without knowing what you are looking for. OTR has the biggest density of restaurants with the widest range of styles, formality and price. I'd be happy to give reco's if you have any questions.

I hope you have a great time and welcome.

As mentioned above, the craft beer scene is great in Cincinnati! My favorite, and a quick Uber ride to the East Side, is MadTree Brewing!

If you're up for the chili, definitely go with Skyline over Gold Star!
