Need Help Automatically Downloading Information

I think the tools for this exist, but I can't figure out how to put them together. I want to automate searching and downloading for any and all new videos, news articles, blog posts, etc. about a certain subject. It seems like there should be a way to do this by harnessing Google Alerts and If This Then That, but I can't figure out how to automate the downloading part of the process.

It seems like Google Alerts is just giving me a truncated version of the articles I want in my inbox/RSS feed; what I need this system to do is go to the source, e.g. the Washington Post, and download a copy of the source article, preferably in a .pdf. The download can be either to a shared folder (e.g. dropbox) or to a local folder; either would work.

Super-special-pony-request: if the automated system could name each file by date and source, so much the better, but it's not necessary.

If we can send a man to the moon, it seems like we should be able to get this done. Halp?
