Recently I discovered the eGullet forums, but I haven't seen anything catering to the other side of the food spectrum- dieting. What diet forums do other Metafilter users use?

There used to be a pretty good one associated with the Lose The Buddha blog, but it seems to be gone now. Since then, I use various blogs' comments sections to fill the same niche as fora, which works OK, but I'm looking forward to others' answers, as I'd like a good forum with a wide readership.
I do have a list of a few good blogs if you want those, although what I've found tends to be primarily written by and read by women, though not on purpose and definitely not exclusionary. (I can't tell what gender you are.)

You may have better Google luck finding a place if you decide the KIND of diet you want. Low carb (Atkins or Southbeach), Weight Watchers, gym rats, anorexic/bulemics & breatharians all have their specific formus where they hang out and discuss the ins and outs of their specific path to non-fattitude. General weight loss searches might tie you up on some lame About.com page.

When I was following the Weightwatchers program but didn't want to pay fees, I used Dotti's Weightloss Zone. They have forums and a chat room, as I recall. However, I eventually switched to simply managing servings and calories -- which is what WW is really about. Between the two methods, I was able to drop about 8 BMI points. I would have dropped even more, if it weren't for becoming pregnant and breastfeeding.

The US Department of Agriculture also has a slick new diet & activity management program on its website: MyPyramid.gov. No forums there, but the site is cool enough to check out.

This previous thread has some forums and websites listed.

redfoxtail is correct. And as a frequent reader of EG, I can attest to the WeightWatchers thread's existence. It's going strong with probably nine million pages at this point. lol.
Take another look under "General Food" - I believe it's listed there.
