Help on a building an audio experience to accompany a photo

For my job, I'm looking for some material to create an audio soundscape for this photo. I don't know much about hip hop or what might have been associated with hip hop culture in 1993 coastal Texas. What songs, ambient sounds, interview snippets, or other (very short) sound experiences would enhance your viewing of this photo?

1993 was the year Michael Jackson went on TV to defend himself against allegations of child sex abuse. Also, I lived in East Texas during that time and listened to a lot of hip hop. I associate it with the ascent of deep bass from car stereos.

Response by poster: In his pocket - is it a beeper or a Tomagotchi or something else?

I know this has nothing to do with coastal Texas, but as soon as I saw the photo I thought of the song Tennessee by Arrested Development. Something about the sound of that song seems appropriate for this photo. It came out in 1992.

I was going to suggest the same thing. I'd also suggest War's Slippin' into Darkness although it came out in the early 70s. I think it has a bit of the zydeco sound you'd hear in coastal Texas and Louisiana.

I have to assume it is a pager, and if it's not, the sound of a beeper would still be a great addition to that photo. It was certainly a part of hip hop culture in that era.
