How to make a Stop Motion with a Canon G10

I have a Canon G10 and want to create a stop motion piece where I won't be near the camera, how do I do it without breaking the bank?

I'm interested in making a 12 hour stop motion piece, from dawn to dusk. I have a Canon G10. What am I going to need in terms of equipment to make it work? Any tips for a noob?

I'm a real shoestring, so reliable budget options are preferred.

You probably need to take a look at the CHDK.

It is free, irrc.

Quibble, you want to create a time-lapse piece.

Response by poster: Crap, mind lapse, yes it's a time lapse that I'm looking to do.

Sigh.
