I'm looking for suggestions for a quick, random, long weekend trip to the Miami area in late November, and/or a website which help me.

Wife and I are heading to Miami for 4 nights after Thanksgiving, mostly because that's where our various accumulated points are taking us. We're staying in Hialeah, and renting a car.

We're looking for interesting things to do, not necessarily attractions, but places to go, sights to see, etc. We're up for anything, outdoors, indoors, beach, city - all of it. Also, since our hotel in Hialeah is basically free, we're probably going to spend a night on a beachfront hotel - so hotel recommendations would be great as well. I would like to also do an Everglades airboat tour.

Also, what to avoid. What can I expect from Hialeah? Can I get a pronunciation?

P.S. Does a Yelp for travel exist? I need a site where locals post great things to do in their cities, and tourists can vote on the recommendations.

the best pronunciation for Hialeah I can come up with is "high-uh-LEE-uh".
I don't have much in the way of specific hotel recommendations, but there are a lot of nice art deco hotels right on ocean drive in south beach. Definitely check out the Wolfsonian museum, also in miami beach (if you're into that sort of thing).

Make sure to head down to Calle Ocho for some Latin food!

Hialeah has the advantage of being really central, as you know from the Google Maps. That's... about it. :)

My favorite day trip is renting a small boat at Pennekamp and going out to the reefs. Bonus: entrance to the Everglades is halfway to Key Largo. (The group tours are nice too, and you might feel a little safer. Sometimes it's weird being five miles out in the ocean with no one around!)

In terms of hotels, there's basically three tiers. You can stay at the Setai or the Tides or one of the other super-fancy ones. Or you can go a step down, like the Fontainebleu, which is very big (as is the W, etc.). Then you can go cheaper and dumpier, but still oceanfront and cheerful, like the Winterhaven. (I also recommend Soho Beach House, though it's north of the strip.)

I strongly suggest booking a room in South Beach. I used to live there, and there's no better place to just walk around and explore. If you're up at the Fountainebleu you will be forced to drive anywhere unless you just want to chill at the hotel. South Beach has Lincoln Road (shops, restaurants, atmosphere) and a million other things to see on foot. No car needed. And you can get cabs everywhere if you really don't want to walk back at the end of the day. The beach there is fantastic and there is no better people watching anywhere in the USA.
