New "Starfield"?

Has anyone made a solid, stable, fancier, and Windows 7 compatible version of the awesome old Windows XP "Starfield" screensaver?

I'm referring to This one, which is apparently also known as "Flying Through Space" and "Starfield Simulation".
I've already learned how to get the old one onto Window 7 (just copy/pasting it from a machine with XP), and it works perfect.
I'm really just curious as to whether someone has expanded on it somehow. Colors? Different size/shape planets? Anything?

After googling for a while I've come across a number of folks who have toyed with it, but nothing resembling a stable release (maybe because of licensing issues?).

Sort of a silly use for a Mefi question but I'll bet I'm not the only one curious..

I don't know, but be careful: Free Screensavers is one of the top malware-returning search terms around, due to the fact they are executable files and lots of people want new, pretty screen savers.

That screensaver is a lot older than Windows XP.

Response by poster: Canageek - Thanks for the warning, that's why I'm not particularly keen on getting just anything moonlighting as this screensaver. Looking for something legit, hence "solid, stable".

sbutler - Cool! I had no idea it went back to 3.1. Wonder why they decided against updating it for the newer releases if Winders..

Because it wouldn't look any better than it used to. The last thing Microsoft wants anyone thinking is, "Why should I bother to upgrade? It's just the same!!"

As in: non-16-bit executable, presumably.
