Stashing Luggage for 8 hours in Seattle?

Going to be flying to Seattle, but for my first day there I am going to be roaming around the city without any place to put my suitcase, like a house, car or hotel. I would prefer to be able to leave my laptop in the suitcase.

Is there a safe place to store luggage for 8 hours or so? Ideally it would be not too far from where the ferries take off from (Alaskan Way) as that is where I will be heading in the evening.

Any decent hotel will do it. usually it's for guest only, but they rarely ask, and even at that, a $10 bill will usually overcome the objection.

I can't speak about Seattle specifically, but a lot of public transit places have lockers you can rent. Subway stations, bus stations, etc. So the first thing you might want to do is call the airport and ask if they have any.

I know from personal experience that Greyhound has lockers in Seattle, but you will probably find something more convenient than that.

They took the lockers out of airports and train stations right after 9/11.

I have a vague memory that the ferry terminal itself had luggage lockers, but they might have disappeared in the last renovation. As COD says, I think luggage lockers might be a thing of the past. (The Greyhound station is up on 8th and Stewart, kind of a long walk from the ferry terminal, but busable.)

A friend told me recently that luggage stores will sometimes store luggage for you for an afternoon — unexpected but possibly convenient if true.

Best answer: There is a small hotel on Yesler, west of 1st (semi near the ferry) that would probably do it. You could call first and ask. http://www.pioneersquare.com/

Or the Hotel 1000 which is maybe even closer. http://www.hotel1000seattle.com/index.php

Another thought is the UPS store on 1st ave - just at the pedestrian bridge to the ferry http://www.theupsstorelocal.com/4869/

Or if you really get stuck, you can leave it at my house on 1st Ave just south of King St. http://susandennis.com/+ (and yes i honestly do fully understand the consequences of sharing personal information.)

The Port of Seattle offers a luggage storage service at the Bell Street Pier Cruise Terminal on Alaskan Way (1.2 mi from Colman Dock, the ferry terminal). I have no idea whether you need to prove that you are a cruise passenger to use this service. Call ahead.
