Here's an entertaining video from some years ago of John Byner doing his Ed Sullivan bit on Letterman. Enjoy it if you will, or skip to the end. Because my question is: what is the song that Paul and the band play going into commercial?

I'm pretty sure it's the intro of a Tower Of Power song, but I've been researching it for a long time and I just can't find it!

That's a tough one. If you can find the next segment in the show, you might be able to catch the end of the same song being played as the intro.

Response by poster: I've heard the band play this at least once before, and (at least the way they play it) it ends like it starts.

I've asked a musician friend. I think it's a Tower Of Power or Earth Wind & Fire song. As I remember it, the keyboard part that Paul plays is done by a clear, blasting horn section. I'll report back when my friend gets back to me.

Ok, I've found the answer - it's Rufus & Chaka Khan and the song is called 'At Midnight'
