Looking for summer housing in DC

I'm looking for short-term housing in DC for May, June, and July. I've seen this great thread, but I'm wondering if there have been any updates since then or if there are summer-specific options.

Female, 23, will turn 24 over the summer. I won't be an intern, but I'm back in school pursuing a second bachelor's degree, so I can probably get away with intern housing if that's the best option. I will be starting work in the beginning of May, and it looks like most intern housing doesn't become available until later in the month, though.

My budget is ~$1000 a month, could go a bit over. Air conditioning and internet access are a must. Red or Blue/Orange line Metro, or walking distance to the White House area is preferable.

I'm particularly interested in the Young Women's Christian Home / Thompson-Markward Hall. I would love to hear more about what it's actually like to live there. I know about the no alcohol / drugs / men, none of which will be a problem. How Christian and how single do you have to be, though? I am engaged and Jewish.

Well, there's always the Loftstel. Not the closest to where you are. Intern season is not a time for cheap summer housing in DC...

DC actually has some great Craigslist sublets.

A lot of group houses will host open houses, where you can visit the place, meet all the roommates, and get a sense of whether it'll be a good fit for you. You just have to be diligent about keeping up with all the listings.

Also, don't be afraid to wait a few more weeks. A lot of places open up last minute, and sometimes it's easier to book a few nights at a hostel when you get to town, and search for rooms in person.

With so many students, interns, & people hopping on political campaigns, I think you'll find a lot of options!

Also, here's an overview of some awesome DC neighborhoods.

Craigslist is already filling up with summer sublets - here's one out in NoVA, not in DC proper but at least on the Orange line. I would think that your university might also be a good place to check.

On second glance, what juliaem said...

I had a roommate who lived in the Young Women's Christian Home and she really really enjoyed it. Her only complaint about it was that it got old not having your own kitchen. Since it looks like you're only going to be there over the summer it probably isn't as much of an issue. But the Christian thing was never an issue for her (she was not religious at all) and I think they are pretty stringent on the no men rule. Basically, it seemed like it had kind of a fun dorm feel.

Definitely keep close tabs on Craigslist, $1000 per month should be no sweat in finding a decent place to live. Try checking message boards for universities because a lot of students from AU, Georgetown, and GW live off campus and need to find summer sub-letters to round on their year-long leases. I also know people who have had good luck with posting housing wanted ads on Craigslist if you want to try that.
