Temporary housing in DC

I have a friend who arrives in DC next weekend for a 9-month fellowship. Problem is, she just learned her housing isn't available until late September. Can you recommend any budget-friendly week-to-week or month-to-month housing arrangements in the DC metro area?

The place she'll be staying for the duration of her fellowship is in Cleveland Park. Generally, Red Line access would be ideal; Blue or Orange Line access could also be nice. Metro accessibility and safety are priorities. "Budget-friendly" is code for "under $1,000." We've been surfing Craigslist, but it's hit-or-miss. Thanks in advance for any leads!

Check out the Boston University Washington Center. It's dormitory-style housing, and it's located on Connecticut Avenue in Woodley Park (which is just below Cleveland Park). I stayed there years ago and it's a nice place about 2 blocks from the Red Line metro. I'm not sure what the prices are now but I'm sure you can call or google around for them.

These two craigslist sublets look like they'd meet her needs:

Young Woman's Christian Home may be the place. I'd guess it's a pretty conservative atmosphere, but it's near Union Station, and you have Capitol Police surveilling the area pretty much 24/7.

Oh, look, a Google map of boarding houses in DC!

No, sorry, scratch that--map isn't quite what it claimed to be.

This place might be good. I remember a local blogger checked it out and it wasn't sketchy.

That's Thompson-Marquart Hall. I came in to recommend that place.

In 1999 me and my friend met a gaggle of women that were living there. They have since become some of my best friends, ever.

Man could those women party. There was not much of a conservative atomosphere at all. No boys allowed, but the women were as much fun as any I've ever met. My buddy married one of them.

One of my friends worked recently for Hostels International in DC and thought it was great. It looks like pricing edges up on the $1,000/month barrier, though.

I visited Thompson-Markward Hall when my sister was doing an internship in DC. No alcohol, no men above lobby level. But it was a good deal (couple of meals a day included), safe, easy walk to Union Station, and a good place to meet other people. Wouldn't describe it as overly conservative or Christian.
