Please make my airport extreme!

Please recommend me a simple, reliable DSL modem that will work automagically with an Airport Extreme?
I have a dying Netgear modem/wireless combo that's not so wireless anymore. So I decided to go with a plain modem and an Airport Extreme. The modem I got (an Actiontec GT701D) apparently hates the AE (or vice versa, who knows). So I spent a bunch of time trying this and bridging that and no dice. I keep reading reviews of the AE where people claim that it just works like a magical magic with their modem. I would like to be those people.
So please tell me about the easy, reliable DSL modem that you set up with an Airpot Extreme in less time than it took you to read this question?
Extra especially awesome if you live in the Bay Area and get your DSL from sonic.net. But this is totally a bonus, definately not a requirement!
I'm asking this from my iPhone so if there are errors I apologize. I tried catching 'autocorrect' but it is a persistent beast.

i've been using a cheap Actiontec M1000 from Qwest with an Airport Express for a few years. Set the DSL modem to transparent bridge mode, put the PPOE login info into the router. Done.
