Not a makeup artist by any stretch, but when I took a 2 unit Masks and Makeup elective in college, my text was Corson's Stage Makeup.

Yes, Corson's book!

Also:

The Technique of the Professional Makeup Artist by Vincent Kehoe

The Makeup Artist Handbook: Techniques for Film, Television, Photography, & Theatre by Gretchen Davis and Mindy Hall

Corson's book doesn't just apply to stage, Kehoe's book is a classic must-read, and the last book is handy to have if you wish to work with newer techniques developed for HD.

You might be surprised by the dearth of color in the Corson and Kehoe books, so I'll tell you in advance that many of the images are in black and white.
