Healthcare hunt in New Mexico

Free (or inexpensive) health clinic in Las Cruces, NM or El Paso, TX?

Have a friend who has a variety of health problems (old injuries, ulcer, etc, he's often in a lot of pain) that he isn't able to have looked at because he doesn't have health insurance and won't be able to get any until the beginning of next year. Google reveals nothing to me in the way of free clinics in this area. Halp! Is there anywhere he could go that they'd be able to at least have a look at him and either patch him up for now or at least tell him that, yeah, you need to see a doctor?

Anon because this isn't my health we're talking about here.

What about what used to be Thomason General? I guess it's now called University Medical Center of El Paso.
